Professor Nguyen is currently Brace Endowed Chair Professor of Civil Engineering at McGill University (Canada). He is internationally recognized for his novel research in the areas of Hydrology and Water Resources Management covering a remarkable range of topics including climate change impact and adaptation studies; modelling and analyses of extreme hydrologic processes; and watershed modelling for sustainable development. He is author or co-author of over 250 influential publications in peer-reviewed journals, engineer practice guidelines, specialized monographs, and conference proceedings. At McGill University, he has served in several leadership positions including Chair of Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics (2009-2018); Director of the Brace Centre for Water Resources Management (2007-2017); and Acting/Associate Director of the Global Environmental and Climate Change Centre (2004-2012). As a distinguished researcher with a broad scientific expertise, he has been invited to serve in numerous expert committees at the national and international levels (WMO, UNESCO, etc.). In addition, he has served in editorial boards of several renowned scientific international journals (ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, IAHR Journal of Hydro-environment Research, IAHR Journal of Hydroinformatics, etc.). He has been invited to deliver keynote and prestigious lectures at several national and international scientific conferences as well as an invited professor at universities in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Furthermore, as a well-respected academic widely known for his international professionalism, since several years Professor Nguyen has actively contributed at leadership levels in several professional associations in the development of international co-operation activities with colleagues in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions (President of the Hydrological Science Section of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society, 2006-2008; Fellow Member of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering; Founding Member of Asia Pacific Association of Hydrology and Water Resource; Leading member in several technical committees of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research, International Water Association, and American Society of Civil Engineers). Finally, as a professional engineer, he has served as technical expert in several engineering projects with consulting companies in Canada and in other countries.
